New Volunteer Tutor Orientation

Event Date:
January 12, 2019 - 10:00am - 11:30am

Time: 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.
Location: TBD (based on number of responses and accessibility)

This is the first step in becoming a volunteer and you will become familiar with TLP’s programs: English as a Second Language (ESL) and Adult Basic Education (ABE).

Keep in mind the following expectations of tutors—
• after orientation, attend tutor training, currently scheduled for February 2
• meet with student(s) at least two hours/week, preferably at the same time and day each week
• lesson preparation
• monthly tutor reports
• a minimum of 15 hours of training in the first year; TLP provides on-site workshops several times/year.
There are online resources available for training as well.
• regular communication with the ESL or ABE program coordinator

Tutors and students meet in one of our classrooms here at TLP (Buffalo and Geneva) or at a neutral place that is mutually convenient, such as a library.

If you are interested in attending the orientation on January 12, please send an e-mail to and include your mailing address so that you can receive the application materials necessary for you to complete and bring with you to the orientation session.

If you have questions or would like more information about a specific program, please feel free to reach out.
