2018 Finger Lakes Crossword Competition Middle Scholars and High Scholars

Saturday, March 17, 2018
1:00-4:00 p.m.
Boynton Middle School
Ithaca, NY

The Finger Lakes Crossword Competition is an important fundraiser for Tompkins Learning Partners, a LiteracyNY affiliated non-profit organization, which provides literacy tutoring, free of charge, for over 100 adults in our community.

Each year, competitors strive to complete crossword puzzles--designed specifically for the event by Ithaca's own Adam Perl--in the fastest time.

This year, for the first time, we are inviting Middle School (grades 6-8) and High School (grades 9-12) students to join us at our competition. They will be solving separate Middle Scholar and High Scholar puzzles specially designed for them by our master puzzle constructor, Adam Perl.

The format for youth will be the same as for the adults. Arrive at Boynton Middle School by 1:30 p.m. at the latest to sign in and enjoy the pre-competition amenities. At 1:45, our Middle Scholars and High Scholars will move into the auditorium to guarantee privacy during the puzzle solving. There will be seating provided for parents or guardians. Parents or guardians are also welcome to compete in the adult skill levels of the event, or take part in the fundraising auction and other event amenities.

If your student plans to compete, it is recommended that you preregister to be guaranteed a seat. We request a $1 fee to compete, to be paid when you sign in on the day of the event. To register or learn more about the event, visit the event page and choose the Middle Scholars and High Scholars Registration.

Prizes will include gift packages from Purity Ice Cream, personalized Winner’s Certificates for the top three finishers in each of the two age groups, and personalized Certificates of Perfection for every player who submits a perfectly solved puzzle within the competition time period. (And, as with the adults, priceless bragging rights.)
